Public Works Operator
(1 Position Available – 40 Hours Per Week)
The Village of Nakusp Operations department is currently seeking one (1) permanent full-time Public Works Utility Operator level 1 or 2. The primary duties include operating, maintaining, and constructing all Village utility infrastructure. The Public Works Operator is also responsible for road maintenance and snow removal, waste and recycling collection, and cemetery operations. Once trained, a certified operator will be required to take part in on-call coverage on a rotating basis. In addition, all operations employees may be required to assist other departments as needed.
Minimum requirements are a High School Diploma and a Class 5 Driver’s license with an air endorsement. Experience in machine operation, particularly snow plows, wheel loaders, backhoes and other construction equipment. Candidates must possess:
- EOCP Operator Certifications: level 1 Water Distribution, Water Treatment, Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment; or Multi-Utility Level 1.
- EOCP Operator Certifications: level 2 Water Distribution, Water Treatment, Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment; or Multi-Utility Level 2.
Other desirable qualifications:
- Civil construction or experience related to municipal utility construction, maintenance or operation; and/or,
- Plant operation experience, power engineering experience or a trade certificate.
A Criminal Record check will be required.
The pay rate will depend on the successful applicant's certifications, ranging from $30.87 to $37.35 an hour. As a condition of employment, the successful applicant shall be required to maintain membership in CUPE Local 2450.
